Fans Not Like Over Kate Upton’s New Super Bowl Ad

If you thought Kate Upton would slowly fade from the spotlight after she appeared on the cover of the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, well, you were clearly wrong.
The 20-year-old (thankfully, we can now stop referring to her as a teenager, which always seemed kind of
creepy) ended 2012 as one of Yahoo!’s most-searched people, thanks to multiple viral videos of the scantily clad blond bombshell. And now, less than a month into the new year, the world is abuzz yet again over Ms. Upton.
This time it’s in response to a new Mercedes-Benz commercial set to air during the February 3 Super Bowl that “leaked” online.” But the buzz isn’t all good.
The premise sounds simple enough. The spot starts out with words "Kate Upton Washes the New Mercedes CLA in Slow Motion" displayed across the screen. But the apparent joke is that Upton doesn’t actually wash anything. The camera pans to the beauty blowing a few bubbles through the air while a gaggle of can’t-believe-their-eyes football players wash the car as she saunters around in short shorts and a super-low-cut, cleavage-baring tank top. While the video has gotten nearly 600,000 views since it was posted on Monday, many of the commenters weren’t thrilled with the spot. Some complained about the quality of the actual ad: “Seriously, this commercial was poorly made,” wrote one viewer. “Who shot and edited this? An 18 year old kid?” asked another.Others were disappointed in Mercedes: “IMHO this ad is contrary to everything Mercedes is supposed to represent. And, of course, there were many who felt it wasn’t Upton’s best work, including this commenter: “She actually looks kind of pathetic and haggard here. I have never thought she was as hot as people seemed to think, and this justifies my opinion of her.” Another agreed: “First time saying 'MEH' to a Kate Upton video. But perhaps the biggest insult came from a commenter named Downytide, who posted this zinger on Wednesday: “If you love Gigli, you'll love this commercial.”
Ouch! But there are plenty of other celebs to watch out for in Super Bowl spots this year. Fresh off her gig as Golden Globes co-host, “Parks and Recreation” actress Amy Poehler will star in a Best Buy ad. Meanwhile, “Big Bang Theory” blonde Kaley Cuoco will hawk Toyota cars, and Upton’s counterpart Bar Rafaeli will step in as this year’s hot model in a Go Daddy ad.As long as none of their commercials are compared to a historically awful Jennifer Lopez-Ben Affleck movie, they should consider it a touchdown.
